Readouts

Reviews with the serial numbers left on.

These are not composite quotes. Each one names a laboratory, a module, or a limitation. If you need a wall of five-star widgets, look elsewhere.

Week four of Activation Signal Laboratory is where we finally admitted “first session with a saved card” was not first value. Our users save cards for later and vanish. The contract now uses a completed PromptPay transfer plus one return in fourteen days. Finance stopped arguing.

Event Taxonomy Architecture did what it promised on naming. The deprecation rules still feel heavy for a six-person startup; we adopted half and parked the rest. Would take Signal Circle next time for the critique pressure.

Client in B2B HR software. After Retention Cohort Atelier we stopped blending trial users with contracted seats. The “healthy” 40% D30 was 19% on the paid slice. Uncomfortable board meeting. Accurate board meeting.

I joined Desk Trace because I write empty states, not SQL. The workbook’s payload examples were the first time I understood why a button name in the tracking plan has to match the screen, not the Figma layer. I still do not run the warehouse. I no longer invent event titles.

A longer note from an Observatory quarter

We commissioned Observatory time after two failed attempts to “clean up Mixpanel ourselves.” The first month was mostly arguing about who owns order_completed when marketing fires a duplicate from the landing page. Logictracebase would not let us keep both. That single decision unblocked three dashboards we had been explaining away with filters.

What I would flag for a peer: office hours assume your engineer can join. When ours was on a release freeze, the week stalled. Budget the engineering hour explicitly or you will collect elegant documents and no shipped events.

Case study

Consumer lending app, 11 months post-Series A

The team arrived with 214 live events and no activation contract. Activation Signal Laboratory plus a short Observatory tail cut the dictionary to 61, named owners, and replaced a 24-hour “funded” proxy with a 10-day window that included KYC retry behaviour common in Thai onboarding.

Result after one quarter: weekly activation readouts reproducible by a new PM without a data scientist in the room. They did not “double conversion.” They stopped lying to themselves about where the funnel actually broke.

Regional SaaS, expansion without theatre

A Singapore-headquartered B2B tool with a large Thai customer cluster used Expansion Instrumentation Desk ideas (taught inside Observatory) to separate seat expansion from list-price changes. Previously both landed in the same “NRR” tile.

After eight weeks they reported seat depth and feature adoption as sibling charts. Sales disliked the honesty for one cycle, then started using the feature chart in renewals. The mild reservation from their analytics lead: “We still want a vendor-specific SQL clinic; Logictracebase refused to become one.”
